The AFRINIC Board has appointed the following people to an ad hoc Nomination Committee (NomCom) to handle the election for Board seat 2 (Western Africa), which is vacant following the resignation of Sunday Folayan.

Following the resignation of Mr Sunday Folayan from the AFRINIC Board, Seat 2 (Western Africa) is vacant.  The Board as per Resolution 201803.399 resolved to hold an election for Seat 2 at the next AGMM in May 2018 in Dakar, Senegal.

This implies that NomCom should propose a slate of candidates, and in terms of the Bylaws article 12.2(ii), the slate of candidates must be included in the notice of the meeting.  However, the current NomCom 2018 includes members who reside in Western Africa, and now there is an open seat for Western Africa, which raises a conflict with the Bylaws article 9.1.

After receiving legal advice and after providing time for AFRINIC members to comment, the Board's intention is to appoint an ad hoc NomCom to handle only the election for Seat 2, leaving the existing NomCom to handle other elections.

I hereby call for volunteers from the community to fill three open positions on an ad hoc Nomination Committee (NomCom) to finalise the list of candidates for Board Seat 2 (Western Africa) for an election to be held at the AGMM in May 2018 in Dakar, Senegal.  If you are interested in serving on the ad hoc NomCom, please send your expression of interest, including a short biography, by email to legalafrinic dot net by Tuesday 3 April 2018 at 12:00 UTC.

Fees and Requirements

Participation is FREE of charge for selected participants and you do not need to be an AFRINIC member to attend. However, priority is always given to AFRINIC members.

Lunch and light refreshments will be served during workshop. Please note that AFRINIC does not contribute to transportation and/or accommodation costs for the participants.

Workshops are open to network engineers and systems administrators who already understand how to design and build IPv4 networks and can use basic network services like DHCP and DNS.

The application process for the Hackathon @ AIS is now open. The Hackathon@AIS is an event aimed at exposing engineers from the African region to Open Internet Standards development and is co-organized by ISOC and AFRINIC. This will be the second event in the series following a successful event held in Nairobi last year during the Africa Internet Summit.

Network/System engineers, software developers, and or computer science students are encouraged to apply as engagement in open Internet standards development can help further their careers.

The event will be held on the 9th and 10th of May 2018 in Dakar, Senegal. If you are interested in participating AND can commit to being available over the 2 days, please fill the application form. Space is limited and successful applicants will be notified and then be enrolled in various online training sessions in the build up of the event. 

Fellowships will be awarded to strong applicants where possible.

The community is hereby informed that at its meeting of 21 March 2018, the AFRINIC Board, in accordance with article 3.4.4 of the Consolidated Policy Manual (CPM), ratified the policy proposal “Lame delegations in AFRINIC reverse DNS” as per below resolution:

Resolution 201803.395

WHEREAS the proposed policy AFPUB-2017-DNS-001-DRAFT-02 (Lame delegations in AFRINIC reverse DNS) has passed through the Policy Development Process;

WHEREAS the Policy Development Working Group’s Chairs have referred the proposed policy to the Board for ratification;

RESOLVED that the policy is ratified by the Board

AFRINIC will now start the necessary steps and process for the immediate implementation of this policy, and inform the community once the implementation process is completed.
