17 May 2018 -The AFRINIC Board hereby calls for expressions of interest from persons who wish to be considered for appointments to fill casual vacancies in the Board, in terms of article 13.14 of the AFRINIC Bylaws.  Any appointments to these vacant seats will be for a period until the next regularly scheduled AFRINIC AGMM, in June 2019.

There are currently four casual vacancies in the AFRINIC Board:

  • Northern Africa (seat 1)
  • Western Africa (seat 2)
  • Southern Africa (seat 5)
  • Eastern Africa (seat 6)

If you would like to be considered for one of these vacant seats, please complete the form at <https://registration.afrinic.net/elections/board-express-of-interest-201805>, no later than 23:59 UTC on 17 June 2018.

Anyone who expresses interest shall:

  • Have at least five (5) years professional experience in an area relevant to AFRINIC activities, such as Internet Resource Management, ICT, policy development, finance, audit or HR management;
  • Be available and committed to participate in Board meetings and other AFRINIC activities (face-to-face and online).

The following requirements from Article 13.10 of the AFRINIC bylaws will be strictly observed:

13.10. No person shall be appointed or hold office as a Director if he is a person who:

(i) is under 18 years of age;

(ii) is an undischarged bankrupt;

(iii) would, but for the repeal of Section 117 of the Companies Act 1984 of Mauritius, be prohibited from being a Director or promoter of, or being concerned or taking part in the management of, a company within the meaning of that Act;

(iv) is prohibited from being a director or promoter of or being concerned or taking part in the management of a company under Sections 337 or 338 of the Act;

(v) is not a natural person; or

(vi) has been adjudged to have been of unsound mind.

The Board further intends to apply the guidelines from Article 13.12 of the AFRINIC Bylaws, to the extent that they consider appropriate:

13.12 [...] the following additional conditions for the eligibility of candidates to the position of Board Directors:

(i) previous Board or organisational leadership experience;

(ii) skills in business management and leadership;

(iii) fundraising for not-for-profit organisations experience;

(iv) network operations and Internet services experience; and

(v) international Business development experience.

11 May 2018 - Following the AGMM held in Dakar, Senegal, on 10 May 2018, the AFRINIC Board held a meeting to appoint a new Chair and Vice Chair.

The AFRINIC Board has appointed Dr Christian Bope as Chair, and Mr Oluwaseun Ojedeji as Vice Chair.

AFRINIC members and the community are hereby informed that electronic voting and appointment of proxies is now open for the AFRINIC Board and Governance Committee elections. Both services are accessible through the MyAFRINIC portal to AFRINIC members in good standing.

We strongly encourage members to use the electronic voting provision, but paper ballots will also be available (during the 2018 AGMM) to members who have not and do not intend to vote electronically.

The Candidate Slate for both elections is available at:

 

1) Electronic Voting

Only a registered  administrative contact of your organization can vote electronically. The admin-contact can also assign the voting right (through MyAFRINIC) to another registered contact.

To vote electronically, please follow the following steps:

  1. Log on to MyAFRINIC at https://my.afrinic.net/login;
  2. Navigate to the ‘Elections’ tab and click ‘Access Election Centre’;
  3. Select the election in which you wish to participate;
  4. Choose the option ‘Vote Online’.

To assign the online voting right to another registered contact of your organisation:

  1. Log on to MyAFRINIC at https://my.afrinic.net/login ;
  2. Navigate to ‘MY Account’ and ‘User Administration’;
  3. Check the ‘Voter Role’ to a corresponding listed contact.

 

2) Proxy Appointment

Please note that a member who has voted on-line cannot appoint a proxy. A proxy can be any individual. Please follow the steps below to appoint a proxy to vote for you in person at the AGMM:

  1. Log on to MyAFRINIC at https://my.afrinic.net/login;
  2. Navigate to ‘Elections’ and ‘Access Election Centre’;
  3. Select the election in which you wish to participate;
  4. Choose the option ‘Appoint Proxy’;
  5. Fill the proxy form;
  6. Print the form, sign it, send a soft copy to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and physically hand the original copy over to the person being appointed as your proxy.

Members who require a paper ballot and those carrying a proxy appointment instrument will obtain a paper ballot on-site, in Dakar, before the AGMM. The signed proxy appointment instrument must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the election (1400h on 09th May 2018) either to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.or to the AFRINIC elections committee staff on-site, in Dakar.

Electronic voting will be closed immediately after casting of paper ballots has been completed, during the AGMM. Proxy appointment will close 24 hours before the AGMM (09th May 2018) to allow the elections committee do appropriate verification ahead of the AGMM.

 

AFRINIC is pleased to announce that it will, through an agency, be offering daytime child care services for delegates intending to travel with children to AIS’18.

This service will be for children aged between 6 months and 10 years and will be available from Saturday 5th May 2018 to Friday 11th May 2018. The times shall be from 0830 hrs to 1800hrs.
